Homer Glen is a village, located 25 miles (40 km) southwest of downtown Chicago, in Homer Township, Will County,Illinois. The village was incorporated on April 17, 2001. Homer Glen is the safest place to live in Illinois and it was also named the 3rd International Dark Sky Community in the world. Homer Glen is only the fourth community in the world and the first municipality in the State of Illinois to be awarded this honorable designation. The Village of Homer Glen received this award because of its “exceptional dedication to the preservation of the night sky through the implementation and enforcement of quality lighting codes, dark sky education and citizen support of dark skies."
